I feel your pain

Honestly, I really do!

One of the reasons I enjoy helping clients through pain and disfunction issues is because I had the privilege and advantage of having a great team of physios behind me.

On being diagnosed with my sacroiliac joint out of alignment (that’s the joint where your pelvis attaches to your spine) I was then sent to a consultant Dr Oldham at BUPA at Leicester for treatment. The treatment involved a lot of needles and was very painful but so worth it to stay in alignment and walk without pain. Throughout this time I had to be re-aligned and checked by my physio, Rory Duffield. He also provided acupuncture which helped to keep the treatment I had working for longer.

I should have got straight back to normal activity but I had developed a severe limp due to losing use of a pelvic stabilising muscle. Rory’s colleague, Julie Dolman, stepped in and what followed was a year in rehabilitation learning to walk correctly again.

This team of people have left me with the knowledge and skills to keep my mobility at a high level which I can also pass onto my clients.

Today I have a six weekly sports massage with Johan Adderley from Regen Physiotherapy to help keep my spine mobile following a diagnosis of sclerosis of the lumbar spine. This is an important part of my routine and the exercises he’s given me have improved my mobility in my spine as well as associated areas which is a bonus.

Keeping healthy and having a good range of movement needn’t be something you do alone. It can be comforting to have the support of a professional and a good time to air any concerns.
