Depending on severity everyone heals at different rates and respond differently to treatment and massage. Lifestyle can also have an adverse effect on recovery, particularly if you have a lifestyle or job that exacerbates the injury or issue.
As a Level 4 Dysfunctional Tissue Practitioner any injuries I feel are outside my field of expertise will be referred on to a practitioner in a field suitable to your injury or issue. I am also able to write letters of referral should you require.
The aim of a Sports massage is to prepare the body for exercise or competition or to identify injuries or problem areas. It is not just for people who play sport, anyone can have a sports massage as it refers to the techniques applied and also to the diagnostic abilities of the practitioner.
Holistic massage is a more general, all over body massage aimed more at relaxation . Sports massage is all over body massage but will concentrate on problem areas and issues.
In the case of a pre event massage it is a great way to warm up an area in preparation for exercise without using any energy. It also increases blood to the area which promotes healing and can aid wellbeing and relaxation. For those with ongoing conditions such as arthritis, massage can form part of a long term maintenance and treatment plan alongside prescribed medication.
You would be advised to come dressed in loose, comfortable clothing, shorts are recommended. It is usual to be asked to remove your t-shirt to allow assessment. During upper body massage ladies whilst laid face down, will be asked to undo the bra hooks to allow access to the shoulders if comfortable to do so. Further assessment following the massage will take place and any improvement recorded in your notes.
Some people experience DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) We don’t know what causes it but you may feel achy or sore for a couple of days. Depending on the severity or chronic status of the injury or issue, it can leave some soreness or dull ache whilst muscles and ligaments return to normal function.
All massages are conducted at your level of tolerance and this will be maintained throughout your massage to ensure you are comfortable at all times.
